Salini Impregilo secures $404m road contract in US


The Salini Impregilo Group, through its US subsidiary, The Lane Construction, has won a $404m design-build joint-venture contract with Security Paving to construct the I-10 Corridor Contract 1 Express Lanes in California, US.

The overall value of the work amounts to $672.9m.

In recent years, the Inland Empire – the metropolitan area and region in Southern California where I-10 is located – has experienced significant population growth and more than 50% growth is expected in the future.

The I-10 Corridor, a critical link within the Inland Empire, serves local, commuter and interstate travellers and is also a major trucking route between Southern California and the rest of the US.

The Contract 1 portion of the project involves designing and construction of 11 miles of two express lanes in each direction of the I-10 from the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line to east of the I-10/I-15 interchange.

After completion, the lanes are expected to reduce traffic congestion, increase throughput, enhance trip reliability and provide long-term congestion management of the corridor.

Work is expected to begin by the end of 2018 and be completed in the first half of 2023.

In May 2018, a consortium led by Salini Impregilo has been shortlisted to design and build the Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link as part of WestConnex, the biggest road development in Australia at AUD16.8bn ($12.6bn).

The consortium includes Clough and Samsung C&T.

At an estimated value of AUD$3.5 billion ($2.6bn), the Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link has been commissioned by the New South Wales government and is expected to improve and expand the transport network in Sydney.

The government plans to construct an underground motorway interchange to City West Link and underground bypass of Victoria Road between Iron Cove Bridge and Anzac Bridge with links to the proposed Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link.

The link will connect the new M4 and M5 motorways. Construction of the M4-M5 Link tunnels is expected to start later in 2018 and open to traffic in 2022. The Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link are expected to open a year later.
