Red Sea Development begins work on Coastal Village for Saudi tourism project

The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) has commenced development of the Coastal Village, a residential and commercial area for the workers, staff and management of The Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia.

The Red Sea Project is a luxury tourism development to be constructed over 28,000km² of land on the Red Sea on Saudi Arabia’s west coast.

Work on the Coastal Village corporate offices has already started and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2020.

The offices will accommodate 500 people and will provide several amenities, including a 160-seat restaurant and a 100-seat auditorium.

TRSDC has also signed a contract for the first 10 residential apartment buildings in the Coastal Village.

The Coastal Village will be home to around 14,000 people who will work at the destination when the first phase of the tourism project opens in 2022.

The village will also provide temporary accommodation to 25,000 workers who will be setting up the infrastructure and assets.

Saudi group Al Majal Al Arabi has been selected as construction partner for the design and build of the management offices.

Recently, Al Majal Al Arabi signed a contract with TRSDC to build 5,000 residential units for construction workers at the destination.

The offices, which will have a total floorspace of around 7,000m², have been designed in three campus elements to maximise shading and ventilation and promote interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Saudi Amana Contracting, a subsidiary of UAE firm Amana Contracting Group, has been appointed as the construction partner for the residential apartments.

Amana Contracting Group has recently won a contract to design and build a management hotel to serve the Coastal Village.

The first five apartment buildings are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2020 and the remaining five by the fourth quarter of the same year, delivering 300 apartments.

Some of the properties, which will provide accommodation for the construction workers, will later be repurposed to meet the needs of employees working at the hotels, commercial and retail assets, entertainment facilities and corporate offices.
