Swedish construction firm Peab has secured a contract worth about SEK1.02bn ($119m) to carry out a reconstruction of the European route E45 in central Gothenburg, Sweden.

The contract, awarded by the Swedish Trafikverket, will include lowering of the E45 in central Gothenburg from Lilla Bommen to Marieholm by about 6m along an 800m stretch.

The work will also involve the widening of a bridge at Gullbergsmotet to create two through lanes on the E45.

Construction will commence in spring 2016 and the project is anticipated to be completed in 2020.

Peab regional manager Berth Larsson said: “Half the distance will be decked over, creating opportunities for building on top of the tunnel roof. The remaining portion of lowering prepared for a future of decking.”
