US-based engineering services firm Parsons has secured a $158m, 2.5-year contract extension for project management/construction management for the Landside Access Modernisation Programme (LAMP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).
LAMP is expected to transform the airport by adding an automated people mover (APM), intermodal transportation facility, consolidated rental car facility (ConRAC) and associated roadway improvements.
The $5bn APM design-build-finance-operate-maintain contract is the largest public-private partnership (P3) project in California’s history.
Parsons Group president Mike Johnson said: “Parsons is extremely pleased to continue our role as LAWA’s owner’s representative on its transformative modernisation programme.
“The APM will reduce vehicle congestion in the central terminal area, connect with LA Metro’s regional transportation system, reduce emissions, and provide reliable access to the terminals and passenger pick-up and drop-off locations.”
The APM and ConRAC are scheduled to begin operations in 2023.
Parsons focuses on the defence, security and infrastructure markets, delivering cyber/converged security, technology-based intellectual property and other services to federal, regional and local government agencies, and private industrial customers globally.
Earlier in June 2018, the company was also awarded an on-call consulting services agreement by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) for the 91 Express Lanes in California.
The 91 Express Lanes segment in Orange County consists of a four-lane toll facility located on the median of the State Route 91 freeway.
Under the terms of the agreement, Parsons will provide technical and operational services. These include functional requirements and specifications development for toll and intelligent transportation systems; implementation of toll system technology; policy assessments; and tolling-related planning, design and construction activities.
Johnson said: “Our tolling technology offers customised solutions to enhance existing service along this heavily travelled corridor.
“We are proud to support OCTA as it strives to provide superior services to the 39,000 daily commuters using the 91 Express Lanes.”
