Nokian Tyres has begun construction on its $360m manufacturing facility in Dayton, Tennessee.

The new site is the first manufacturing facility of the firm in North America and will mainly focus on manufacturing North American-specific car and light truck tyres. It will feature a distribution facility that will have a capacity to store around 600,000 tires.

Upon completion in 2020, the site will be capable of producing four million tires per annum with room for expansion in the future.  Construction work is expected to start in early 2018.

Nokian Tyres president and CEO Hille Korhonen said: “Nokian Tyres’ investment in Tennessee is supporting our growth ambition and commitment to serve our customers in North American market.”
