Finnish tyres company Nokian Tyres has started construction on a new administration building at its factory in Dayton, Tennessee.

The company has partnered with EMJ Construction for building the facility, which is scheduled for completion in the middle of next year. The new facility will include meeting spaces, offices, a gym, garden and other premium amenities.

The administration building’s interactive, open-concept office space will accommodate 100 employees.

The two-storey, 26,500ft² facility will include a cafeteria that doubles as a large meeting space, conference rooms, a first-aid room, a gym and locker rooms and a sauna, to honour the company’s Finnish roots.

Nokian Tyres Dayton factory operations director Peter Chia said: “Our administration building is another example of our desire to be the employer of choice in Southeast Tennessee.

“In addition to taking care of our workers’ practical business needs, we want this facility to give them space to thrive.”

The company claims to have added several green features to the factory. It include greenspace area outside the building, featuring a garden between the parking lot and the building’s entrance, complete with a pond, trees, park benches and a walking path. Patios will dot the exterior of the structure.

Work on the adjacent production complex is almost complete and trial production began last month. Commercial tire production is scheduled for early next year.

The $360m (£297m) manufacturing facility in Dayton will serve customers across the US and Canada and is expected to double its commitment of producing safe and sustainable products.

When completed, the new factory will produce North American-specific car and light truck all-season tires. It will also increase Nokian Tyres’ production and warehouse capacity, allowing it to meet the increasing demand in the North American market.

The new facility will have the capacity to produce four million tyres annually by 2023 and it will also have the ability to store as many as 600,000 tyres at the onsite distribution facility.

Nokian Tyres CEO Hille Korhonen said: “Nokian Tyres’ $360 million investment in the Dayton facility is another direct measure of our ‘Investing in North America’ strategy and reflects our commitment to our customers and the growing consumer demand for our products in North America.

“With increased plant capacity we will be able to add new North American specific products, reduce delivery times and strengthen our overall ability to serve our customers throughout the US and Canada.”
