UK-based property development firm Nikal has appointed McGoff Construction to deliver enabling works on Altair, a new £70m residential and lifestyle Quarter in Altrincham Town Centre, England.

The new residential and retail Quarter will be constructed on a 4.5-acre site at the junction between Moss Lane and Oakfield Road in Altrincham Town Center, which is adjacent to Altrincham’s Transport Interchange.

The project will be delivered in phases with the first phase involving the construction of new apartment building; Altair One.

Altair One will feature 59 one- and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses along with a boutique hotel style entrance and communal spaces and a private residents’ roof garden.

In the later phases, Nikal’s plans to include four contemporary style buildings to offer residential units as well as leisure retail and Grade A office space. Plans are on to include 85 one, two and three-bedroom apartments along with 45,000ft² of leisure retail space and 20,000ft² of Grade A office accommodation.

Furthermore, McGoff is involved in talks with Nikal to deliver all phases of the £70m development. Works on the site are scheduled to commence in June 2019.

McGoff Construction joint managing director Dave McGoff said: “McGoff Construction are delighted to support Nikal with the continued regeneration of our much loved home town. Not only is Altair a stunning addition to Altrincham’s skyline, such partnerships between likeminded locally based businesses will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the local economy.”

The company has previously announced that Eric Wright Construction would deliver Altair One.

Nikal has to renegotiate its construction contract with the Eric Wright, due to long delays in receiving approvals for major infrastructure work, which involved liaising with Network Rail and other statutory bodies.

Nikal and Eric Wright had lengthy period of discussions as part of renegotiation, where an agreement could not be reached, leading Eric Wright to part company.

In summer 2017, Nikal’s luxury homebuilding arm, Hillcrest Homes has brought Altair One, the first phase residential element within Altair to the market.

Hillcrest Homes managing director Says James Payne said: “The delays have obviously been disappointing for ourselves and our customers but they have been incredibly patient and understanding. The majority have chosen not to exercise their right to cancel their reservation and receive a full refund.

“One positive for them is that Altrincham continues to thrive. Demand for new, high quality homes within the town centre remains high and the value of their apartments continues to increase. We will be delighted to finally make a start at Altair.”

The company claims that approximately 60% of the apartments are currently reserved.
Nikal development director Darren Jones said: “Negotiating a new contract with a new contractor for a scheme of this scale and significance is not a quick and easy task. Thankfully, McGoff were known to us and have repeatedly demonstrated their considerable capabilities on a variety of successful projects.

“It’s also satisfying to be able to appoint a local Altrincham based business, with a track record in delivering housing, retail and leisure schemes, to what is an important development in their home town.”
