Swedish construction firm NCC has won a SEK800M ($89M) contract to expand and upgrade the Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping, Sweden.

NCC will execute the contract in partnership with Region Jönköping County.

The scope of the project will include the construction of a new 34,000 sq m, six-storey building to the north of the existing hospital.

The new facility will feature several wards, including an additional emergency ward with 48 beds, two wards for medicine, complete with day care and reception centres, a mammography centre and educational premises that will be used for medical training conducted by the University of Linköping.

Gunnar Masthagen, deputy head of division at NCC Building Sweden, said: “NCC’s broad expertise and extensive experience in building healthcare establishments will benefit our customers’ new hospital project.

“It is also a major advantage to enter the process at an early stage when you are involved in a project of this type. It provides added value for all parties.”

Construction on the project is set to begin in the first quarter of 2018 and be completed in 2020.
