Swedish construction firm NCC has been selected by the Hovedstaden region of Denmark to build the New North Zealand Hospital in Hillerød.

Estimated to cost about SEK3.4bn (£289m), the new hospital will feature a four-storey, 118,000m² building. The building has been designed to resemble a four-leaf clover from above.

As the main contractor for the project, NCC will work with the New North Zealand Hospital on the details and the plan, before signing the agreement, which is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of this year.

NCC Building Nordics head in Denmark Palle Bjerre Rasmussen said: “We are very proud to construct this unique hospital, which will benefit thousands of patients, relatives and employees. The client has from the outset focused on collaboration, so the conditions are highly favorable for a good outcome.”

The New North Zealand Hospital project manager Henrik Schødts said: “In a project of this magnitude, it is essential that all relevant information about the construction process is available to the parties involved. This imposes considerable demands on digital literacy skills, which we are convinced that NCC possesses.”

Earlier this month, NCC secured a contract worth SEK290m (£24.6m) to build 225 apartments in Linköping, Sweden for Riksbyggen.

NCC in collaboration with Riksbyggen will build eight new apartment blocks with a total of 182 rental units and 43 tenant-owner apartments.

NCC stated that two of its standard building designs including the NCC Lamell and NCC Folkboende, will be used for the project.

Lamell buildings will be seven stories high, while Folkboende building will be an eight-storey high building.

The district will also feature smaller apartments, studio and one-bedroom apartments as well as two-bedroom apartments.

Construction of the project will begin in this year’s autumn and is expected to be completed in spring 2022.
