Nakheel-Centara JV awards contract to Parkway to build Deira Islands resort

Nakheel and Centara Hotels & Resorts have awarded a contract worth AED290.5m ($79.09m) to Parkway International Contracting to construct a beachfront resort at Deira Islands in Dubai.

The four-star beachfront resort, named as the Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai, will feature 601 rooms. It is being developed by an AED500m ($136.1m) hospitality joint venture (JV) formed in January 2017 between Nakheel, a UAE-based master developer and Thai hotel group Centara Hotels & Resorts.

The new resort will be Centara’s first in the UAE and is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2020. On the other hand, the contract given to Parkway International takes Nakheel’s infrastructure and construction investment at Deira Islands to almost AED8.8bn ($2.4bn) till date.

Nakheel chairman Ali Rashid Lootah said: “Our joint venture with Centara underlines our commitment to working with trusted international brands to bring new hospitality concepts to Dubai, and today’s crucial milestone brings this exciting new resort ever closer.

“I look forward to delivering one of Dubai’s most sought-after destinations for travellers from all over the world.”

The Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai will spread across an area of 295,900ft² and will feature waterpark, dining facilities, kids’ club, spa and fitness centre along with a business centre.

According to Nakheel, the 601 rooms in the new Dubai resort will give a view of the sea and will cover a variety of categories, with 114 of the rooms to be specifically designed for family-sized accommodation. There will also be rooms for guests with special needs, standard rooms, deluxe rooms, suites as well as 1,200ft² duplexes.

Central Group corporate development executive vice president Suparat Chirathivat said: “We believe that the unique design and service of Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai will offer unforgettable holiday experiences to guests.

“With Nakheel’s development expertise and Centara’s record of delivering and inspiring extraordinary guest experiences, we will create a unique resort that surprises and delights guests for years to come.”
