Muse Developments, a subsidiary of Morgan Sindall Group, has announced the start of construction on the new Hampton by Hilton hotel in Stockton, UK.
The 128-bed hotel, located close to Stockton town centre, will provide high quality accommodation for both business and leisure visitors.
Muse will deliver the Hampton by Hilton on behalf of the Stockton Borough Council, which will fund and take ownership of the hotel.
The hotel development will complement the Globe Theatre, which is being restored by the Council back to its former glory as a major venue for concerts in the north-east.
Muse, along with partners Homes & Communities Agency and Stockton Borough Council, is delivering the new Hampton by Hilton, which is part of the £100m mixed-use Northshore regeneration scheme.
It includes new family homes, offices and leisure facilities adjacent to the River Tees and close to the town centre.
Bowmer & Kirkland is building the hotel on the former dairy car park site. The hotel is expected to be completed in early 2019.
Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke said: “It’s great to see construction of the hotel progressing really well and there’s no more obvious sign of that than the arrival of this impressive machine on site. It won’t be long before the steelwork starts taking shape too.
“The hotel will bring a famous global brand to the town, attract £6.7m per year into the local economy, and will be welcomed with open arms by local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce, who have expressed overwhelming support for it.
“It will also complement the restoration of the Globe, our world-class events programme and, combined with our award-winning High Street, ensure the town centre remains an attractive place to visit and invest.
Muse Developments senior development surveyor Simon Dew said: “It was a pleasure to join our project partners and celebrate the start on site of Stockton’s new Hampton by Hilton hotel.
“This major investment will complement the successful phases of development at Northshore delivered to date and the Council’s ongoing investment in the adjacent town centre. This development will further add to the vibrancy of Stockton and we are looking forward to seeing construction progress over the coming months.”
