Australian contractor Multiplex has achieved a construction milestone on LK Property Group’s A$800m six-star retail and high-rise residential development, Capitol Grand, with the ‘topping out’ of the 10-level Capitol Grand Tower in Melbourne, Australia.
Located on the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street, Capitol Grand was designed by Bates Smart Architects.
It consists of 400 luxury apartments across two towers – the 10-storey Capitol Grand Tower and the 50-storey LK Tower.
The 180-metre LK Tower offers panoramic views across Melbourne, particularly from the upper levels where five whole-floor penthouses provide 360-degree views.
Multiplex regional managing director Graham Cottam said: “We are delighted to achieve this milestone on the inner-city’s latest tower. Capitol Grand represents the epitome of luxury living and is on track for completion next year.”
Around 400 people are working on the site every day, and approximately 20,000m³ of concrete has been used on both towers so far.
The company has used a range of innovative construction techniques, including cantilevered offset grillages on cranes to reduce the impact to permanent structure; and temporary shield structure to protect overhead services during crane lifts from Chapel Street.
Multiplex has also installed the façade behind formwork protection screens to mitigate the risk of falling objects.
Capitol Grand will feature a lobby, private pools, gyms, dining areas and elevated gardens designed by Jack Merlo.
People who purchase an apartment on Level 32 or above will have their own entrance, three dedicated lifts and exclusive access to the Azure Club, which will feature a gym, lounges, dining rooms and an infinity pool.
Capitol Grand will also accommodate fine dining establishments, three levels of luxury retail, and a five-level basement carpark for residents.
The project is scheduled for completion in late 2019 after the handover of the CG Tower in mid-2019.
