Mortenson has celebrated the topping out ceremony at the Hyatt Place / Hyatt House Tempe Downtown hotel, which is located in Novus Innovation Corridor in Arizona State University, Tempe.

Being the first building in the Novus Innovation Corridor, the hotel’s concrete roof deck was set in place and is now at peak height, Mortenson said. The topping out, being a major milestone, symbolises the placing of the last major structural component.

The topping-out ceremony was conducted in the presence of Mortenson and its concrete trade partner, Suntec Concrete, along with other trade partners.

Mortenson real estate development director George Forristall said: “We are making exciting progress on this project. It is rewarding to take a moment to recognize the tremendous efforts our construction team has made.

“We have definitely built off of the momentum established during the development stages and were fortunate to work with our design partners, Catellus, the City of Tempe and Arizona State University to break ground quickly. It is rewarding to see that stride of pace continue through execution as this project comes to fruition.”

Suntec Concrete founder Jerry Barnier said: “The great thing about working with Mortenson is how they manage the jobsite through passion and discipline.

“Despite a tight labor market, through their relationships they work with only the best subcontractors which makes it easy for all of us hit our target dates while keeping the jobsite safe.”

In April this year, the ground-breaking ceremony was held at the hotel. The master developer Catellus Development said that it is building a 259-room, eight-storey, dual-branded hotel at the Novus Innovation Corridor, is located just north of the northeast corner of the intersection of E. Veterans Way and E. 6th St. in Tempe.

It was constructed on 0.98-acre footprint within walking distance of Sun Devil Stadium and is adjacent to Wells Fargo Arena and the planned Multi-Purpose Arena.

Amenities at the hotel include an open lobby, shaded patio spaces and banquet, meeting, and outdoor event spaces. Guests will be able to relax and socialise in outdoor environments, where a ground-level guest kitchen, dining and lobby bar areas will be located.

The hotel, which will still be under construction for several more months, has nearly 6,705 yards of concrete have been poured, with 60,000 hours worked till now at the site. Construction of the hotel will be completed next summer.
