The Metropolitan Airport Authority (MNAA) has awarded two projects to Hensel Phelps and Eutaw Construction Company under its BNA Vision – renovation and expansion plan for Nashville International Airport (BNA) in Tennessee, US.
Colorado-based Hensel Phelps has been awarded a $203m design-build contract for Concourse D and terminal wings expansion project.
Eutaw Construction has been awarded a $23m construction contract for terminal apron and taxilane expansion project.
The Concourse D and terminal wings expansion project will expand BNA’s fourth concourse, as well as enlarge the existing Ticketing Lobby and Baggage Claim areas. Work is expected to be completed in 2020.
Concourse D has not been used since American Airlines stopped using BNA as a hub 20 years ago.
The new Concourse D will feature 115,000ft2 of space with six domestic aircraft gates, dining and retail options and a central utilities plant.
As part of this project, 80,000ft2 of new space will be added to the north and south ends of the terminal, expanding the Ticketing Lobby and adding four baggage claim carousels.
The terminal apron and taxilane expansion project will add more than 500,000ft2 of additional space for aircraft parking and manoeuvring, adjacent to the airport terminal. Work is expected to be completed in 2019.
BNA Vision, which was unveiled by MNAA in January 2017, includes expanded concourses, additional security screening lanes, international arrivals facility, on-site hotel, and transit station.
MNAA president and CEO Doug Kreulen said: “We are eager to bring Concourse D back to life with commercial air service, as well as add capacity to our Ticketing and Baggage Claim levels.
“In addition, the terminal apron and taxilane expansion will be vital to our future state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility, which is set to open in 2023. BNA Vision is well underway now, as multiple projects will soon be simultaneously in motion. It’s an exciting time for our airport.”
