Millennium Hotels and Resorts, belonging to the Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, has broken ground on a new hospitality and residential project called ‘M Social’in Sunnyvale, California, US.
The construction of M Social marks the first property in North America and fourth globally after Singapore, Auckland and Suzhou.
Conceptualised as a trendsetter place by founder chairman Kwek Leng Beng of Singapore, M Social has been designed as a lifestyle concept that includes technology, allowing people to socialise and interact.
The project will include 250 residences and a 263-room hotel with more than 24,000ft² of function space, including 11,000ft² of flexible meeting and event space, 4,300ft² of outdoor space and 9,100ft² of public spaces.
The complex will feature 5G wireless, providing hotel guests and residents quicker downloads, the lowest latency and highest bandwidth to stream live TV, gaming and movies.
M Social will also be the first steel frame modular hotel in California, which will enable more efficient build times, reduced construction waste and less impact on the environment.
The hotel will feature California-influenced stylish and vibrant design. The project is set to open in the first quarter of 2021.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts North America president and global chief technology officer Howard Wu said: “The property’s close proximity to Silicon Valley and 5G mobile technology services will further reinforce the M Social brand’s commitment to technological advancements within its hotels.”
Verizon is providing the 5G wireless technology for the project.
Verizon senior vice president, 5G ecosystems, innovation and product development Toby Redshaw said: “Emerging technologies, and 5G in particular, can be revolutionary for the hospitality industry impacting hotel operations, guest experience and customer engagement.
