Developer Meraas Holding is set to construct a multi-purpose arena in Dubai.

The new facility, known as the Dubai Arena, will cover an area of 500,000sq ft and have a capacity of 20,000. The air-conditioned indoor venue will feature changeable seats that will enable the arena to transform depending on the scale of the event being held.

The property will be managed by AEG Ogden, part of Anschutz Entertainment Group, while DXB Entertainment has been tasked with its design and construction.

DXB Entertainments CEO Raed Kajoor Al Nuaimi said: “What makes Dubai Arena stand apart from its counterparts is its remarkable size, capacity, and ability to be transformed from a theatre to a stadium depending on the scale of the event.”

The project has already broken ground, and is expected to be wrapped up in the last quarter of 2018.

Meraas group chairman Abdullah Al Habbai said: “The new destination will enrich Dubai’s existing infrastructure and will add a new state-of-the-art venue that will accommodate international events and will raise Dubai’s credentials as a premium leisure and entertainment hub.

“Dubai Arena will host famous and world renowned athletes, artists and performers and attract tourists to Dubai all year round.  It will also host large global events and performances that have not visited the region as yet, due to the lack of a suitable platform for holding similar events.”
