McLaren Construction has been selected to build a futuristic training complex at the former Park Hill Golf and Fishing Centre at Charnwood.

As principal contractor, McLaren Construction will construct the new training centre for Leicester City Football Club.

The main building will feature a structure that moulds into the landscape while the building will be surrounded by 11 full-size outdoor pitches, eight smaller pitches, five training grids and two goalkeeping areas.

The indoor facilities will comprise 35 bedrooms, a hydrotherapy pool, rehabilitation facilities and dining areas for the club’s academy and first team. It will also include administration offices and a media centre.

A full-size indoor artificial pitch will be built next to the main building, which is planned to be opened in mid-2020.

Leicester City Football Club will use the centre as sports turf academy to train the next generation of grounds-people.

It also comprises a 499-seat mini-venue show pitch to train the under-23 and under-18 teams in simulated match environment.

McLaren Group chairman Kevin Taylor said: “We are very excited to work on this prestigious project. It’s a wonderful opportunity to partner with Leicester City to create a facility that will help to shape the next generation of top sportsmen and women – for the club and for the sport.

“We bring our considerable experience in sports and leisure facilities to the project, as well as our reputation for quality and timely delivery.”

To support biodiversity in the area, the building features 17 new ponds over 9,400m² to attract wildlife and to manage surface water drainage.

Additionally, 38,000 new trees will be planted across more than 11 hectares of retained woodland, alongside 4.4 hectares of new planting and landscaping and 14.6 hectares of wildflower grassland.

Recently, Waterside Places has selected McLaren Construction as the main contractor for the first phase of Hale Wharf development at Tottenham Hale, as part of a wider regeneration programme.
