McAleer & Rushe has secured approval for its new student accommodation project on the site of a former Metropolitan College building on McClintock Street/Blackstaff Square, Belfast.
The company will deliver the project as part of a £72m ($101.5m) contract awarded by Queen’s University earlier this month.
Built as part of a mixed-use student and hotel scheme, the McClintock Street project will involve the construction of a 16-storey building with 476 bedrooms, as well as ground floor retail space.
In addition to the McClintock Street housing, the contract also includes the construction of student housing on the College Avenue, featuring 680 cluster bedrooms and 95 studios.
Both the projects are expected to be completed in mid-2018.
McAleer & Rushe Group CEO Eamonn Laverty said: “McAleer & Rushe is looking forward to working together with Queen’s University to deliver state of the art student accommodation which has been shaped by our experience of working on other similar projects across the UK.
“We would also commend the hard work being put in by the city council to enhance the attractions of our city and push forward its economic and cultural renaissance for the benefit of us all.”
