L&T Construction has won orders valued at $778m from Indian and overseas clients.
The Railways Strategic Business Group of Transportation Infrastructure business, in joint venture with Marubeni Corporation of Japan, won a design and build order worth INR31.91bn ($468m) from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company (DMTC) for electrical and mechanical systems package of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT – Line 6).
Line 6 is the first route of the MRT system and the project is funded by the Japan International Corporation agency (JICA) through bilateral aid from Japan to Bangladesh.
The 20km Line 6 is an elevated metro rail system connecting Uttara and Motijheel in Dhaka, passing through Pallabhi and Mirpur, with 16 stations and a Maintenance Depot.
The electrical and mechanical system is a design and build package, which involves the construction of ballastless track work in mainline (43TKM), ballasted track work in depot (19TKM), eight 1,500V DC traction substations, feeder messenger type DC overhead catenary system, and energy storage system.
The package includes communication-based train control signalling system, telecommunication system and radio communication based on LTE, automatic fare collection system, platform screen doors, lifts, escalators and overall system integration.
The Power Transmission & Distribution business will execute the 132kV GIS-based receiving substations, associated EHV cables from grid substations, auxiliary substations at stations and depot, 33kV cable network along the viaduct and the SCADA system for the power supply arrangements.
The project is will be followed by maintenance support service for six years.
L&T Construction’s Buildings & Factories business has secured orders worth INR15.65bn ($230m).
It secured an order from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the modernisation of Chennai Airport, Phase-II, in Tamil Nadu.
The brown field project is set to be completed in two phases and involves the construction of 2.1 million ft² of passenger terminal building.
Another order has been received from a developer for the construction of multi-level car parking with an integrated commercial mall at Chennai Airport.
The project involves the construction of one million ft² of multi-level car parking building, including 250,000ft² of commercial mall on design and build model.
The Power Transmission & Distribution business has secured an EPC order worth INR5.47bn ($80.5m) for turnkey construction of EHV substations.
