L&T Construction wins contracts across three business segments

L&T Construction, theconstruction arm of L&T, has won significant contracts across its Power Transmission and Distribution (PT&D) and Water and Effluent Treatment business segments and a large contract across its Buildings and Factories business unit.

The PT&D business segment has bagged several EPC orders.

On the international front, the segment has secured an order for the construction, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a 132/11kV substation and associated works in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It has also won an order for a 132kV cable circuit.

In India, the business segment has won an order to convert overhead lines of a power distribution system to an underground cabling system in the cyclone-prone coastal town of Cuddalore in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The business segment has won another transmission line package from Bihar State Power Transmission, as well as add-on orders from some of its existing transmission line projects.

The company’s Water and Effluent Treatment business segment has secured projects from the Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Supply Corporation (APDWSC), Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The EPC orders have been secured for the execution of drinking water supply projects in Srikakulam and East Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The scope of work includes design, supply and erection of 8,036km of transmission and distribution pipelines; construction of 19 water treatment plants of aggregate capacity 133MLD; 1,628 elevated storage reservoirs of aggregate capacity 45.35ML; 217 pump houses; and 5.6 lakh house service connections.

The projects will supply drinking water to 2,898 habitations in Srikakulam and East Godavari districts.

Meanwhile, the company’s Buildings and Factories Business has secured a design and build order for the construction of hospitals from a private developer in India.

The private sector project will incorporate the National Disaster Management Authority guidelines and will have base isolators in the foundation to withstand worst-case seismic scenarios.

The project, which will feature 37 linear accelerator bunkers, is to be completed within 30 months.

The business segment has also secured another order for the construction of a hospital in Udupi, Karnataka.

The company classifies projects under four categories. Significant contracts are worth INR10bn ($140m) to INR25bn ($350m), large contracts are valued between INR25bn ($350m) and INR50bn ($700m), major contracts are worth INR50bn ($700m) to INR70bn ($980m), and contracts under mega classification are worth more than INR70bn ($980m).
