L&T Construction, the construction unit of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has announced that its Buildings & Factories business won an INR29.03bn ($447M) contract for the construction of a residential project in Mumbai [pictured], India.
The project, to be delivered for Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), will involve the redevelopment of Mumbai’s century - old BDD Chawls. It is the largest residential project awarded to L&T Construction to date.
Under the contract, the firm will be responsible for the complete design and construction of 20 residential towers for rehabilitation, four high-rise towers for sale and one commercial development within a plot area of 16 acres along with MEP, finishes, onsite/offsite infrastructure, landscaping, demolition of existing structures and logistics involved in the rehabilitation of the current occupants.
L&T said that it will deploy aluminium formwork systems to create a sleek and elegant structure that is both aesthetically appealing, as well as structurally sound.
