L&T Construction wins $435m EPC order for expansion of Hyderabad airport


The Buildings and Factories Business of L&T Construction has won an EPC order worth INR30.28bn ($435m) from GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) in India.

The scope of work includes execution and implementation of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for expansion of the terminal building and airside infrastructure works at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, Telangana.

The brownfield airport expansion project is to be executed within a stringent timeline and reiterates L&T’s EPC capabilities in building brownfield airport infrastructure.

The expansion will increase the airport’s capacity to handle 34 million passengers per annum (MPPA). L&T had earlier constructed the Hyderabad International Airport.

Previously, L&T Construction had won orders worth INR32bn ($467m) across various business segments from Indian and overseas clients.

The company’s Power Transmission and Distribution (PT&D) business secured EPC orders worth INR17.23bn ($251m).

It won an order in the Kingdom of Morocco for the construction of 400kV and 225kV transmission lines to evacuate power from the Midelt solar power station.

The PT&D business also won an order from Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for the construction of a 220kV overhead transmission line from Toshka in Egypt, a crucial link in the Egypt-Sudan electricity interconnection project.

It secured an order in Algeria for the construction of a 60/10kV gas insulated substation in Annaba city.

The PT&D business won an order from the Nepal Electricity Authority for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 220kV substations.

In India, it secured an order for the construction of 220kV and 132kV transmission lines and substations in Madhya Pradesh on turnkey basis under the Green Energy Corridor projects.

It won another order for the establishment of a 400/230kV gas insulated substation in Tamil Nadu.

An order has been received for urban electrification and sub-transmission works in Jammu and additional orders from ongoing power distribution jobs.

The PT&D business also received orders to build grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic systems and solar-powered irrigation systems in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand.

L&T Construction’s Smart World and Communication business has secured an order worth INR1.81bn ($26.3m) for the implementation of Goa Intelligent City Management System for Panaji City as the Master System Integrator (MSI).

The scope of work includes the deployment of smart elements such as citywide Wi-Fi and surveillance systems, solid waste management system, smart traffic and smart parking, environmental sensors, public address systems and variable message display boards.

A centralised Integrated Command and Control Centre and Security Operation Centre are also planned to be established in the city.
