LG Electronics has broken ground on its new $250m home appliance manufacturing facility near, Clarksville in Tennessee, US.
The one-million-square-foot home appliance manufacturing facility is expected to generate at least 600 full-time jobs.
Upon becoming operational in the first quarter of 2019, the factory will start producing front- and top-load washing machines. The facility will be able to produce a fully assembled washer every 10 seconds.
The highly automated plant will enable LG to change between models in less than four minutes. Additionally, the 310-acre site provides the potential to expand for production of other home appliances.
LG president of the home appliance and air solutions company Dan Song said: “We are proud to make further investments in America, to create even more U.S. jobs, and to bring state-of-the-art home appliance production technology to the great state of Tennessee.
"We couldn't have selected a better location for our state-of-the-art facility. Today's groundbreaking in Clarksville brings us another step closer to producing premium LG washing machines in the United States."
