UK-based construction company Laing O’Rourke has been appointed main contractor by TH Real Estate and APG for a £1bn retail and leisure centre project in Scotland, UK.
The 157,900sq m Edinburgh St James development will feature 79,000sq m of retail space, a multi-screen cinema, and a five-star hotel. It will also involve the construction of 150 apartments and 1,600 car park spaces.
Laing O’Rourke’s chairman and chief executive Ray O’Rourke said: “TH Real Estate are to be commended for the 21st century approach to this complex city centre project. Construction work has commenced, along with the existing St James Shopping centre demolition which is anticipated to take around 18 months. The scheme is expected to be complete in 2021 and create up to 3,000 permanent jobs.
