Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust has selected UK-based construction company Kier Group to deliver the new imaging centre at Royal Brompton Hospital in the UK.

The Trust manages the Royal Brompton Hospital, which is claimed to be one of the largest specialist heart and lung medical centres in the country.

The new imaging centre’s two lower levels will be underground and will provide services for the building and MRI scanners while the ground and first floors will have a range of facilities, including echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiogram, CT scanners and clinical support accommodation.

Secured through the ProCure22 (P22) framework, the 3,417m² imaging centre is scheduled for completion in summer 2021.

Administrated by the UK Department of Health & Social Care, the P22 Construction Procurement Framework focuses on the development and delivery of NHS and Social Care capital schemes in England.

The new imaging centre will provide diagnostic facilities for patients as well as enable several innovative treatments, including interventional bronchoscopy, Kier said.

Kier London regional building managing director Cliff Thomas said: “This latest win is significant for Kier Regional Building London and we look forward to bringing our expertise in the healthcare sector to this project.

“We are very excited to continue working in partnership with Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust to deliver this project. Working with the Trust we will build a facility that will service the patients for years to come.”

The centre’s first floor will comprise a bridge which will link the imaging centre and Royal Brompton’s Sydney and Chelsea Wings.

Earlier this year, Kier was selected by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a new hospital in the south of England.

The 11,500m² site will specialise in planned, non-emergency procedures, offering latest outpatient and diagnostic facilities for cardiology, radiology, lithotripsy, children’s clinic, physiotherapy and orthodontics.

It will feature six operating theatres, 48 inpatient beds and 22 day case cubicles as well as a primary care hub and a private patient unit.
