UK-based construction services firm Kier has won an order to design and build a £46M office and laboratory at Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the UK.

The new project will involve the construction of a three-storey laboratory building and a four-storey office building, connected by an atrium link. It will offer about 9,290 sq m of office and laboratory space.

The scheme is being delivered for Cambridge Medipark and will be occupied by Abcam, a provider of life science research tools.

Upon completion, the new site will allow Abcam to combine its three existing facilities in Cambridge into one new global headquarters.

Peter Young, Kier executive director, said: “This is another prestigious win for Kier in the biotech sector, building on our sector-leading expertise, as well as reaffirming our track record across Cambridge.

“Kier has extensive experience delivering specialist research facilities, and we are proud to be playing a key role in developing Cambridge Biomedical Campus — a world-renowned centre of clinical and healthcare excellence.”

Construction on the project is set to commence in March 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.
