InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced the signing of three new hotels to enter New Caledonia.

The new hotels include InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort, which is being constructed on Lifou, one of the Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia.

The luxury hotel will comprise 50 rooms, lagoon-front suites, all-day dining, a fine dining restaurant and bar, along with a gym, spa and an outdoor pool.

Scheduled to open in November 2021, the resort is designed by local architect Atelier 13 and interior designer Chada.

The second hotel, Holiday Inn Resort Ouvéa, which will convert from the current Hotel Paradis d’Ouvéa after a complete refurbishment, is located on the beachfront at the Mouli Beach on the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ouvéa Island.

The 34-room resort, which will offer all-day dining, a bar and an outdoor pool, is scheduled to open in November 2021.

Located in the Lifou Island’s town centre of Wé, the third hotel, Holiday Inn Resort Lifou, will convert from the current Hotel Drehu Village after extensive renovation.

The 30-room beachfront resort, which is scheduled to open in 2024, is expected to offer an all-day dining and bar, an outdoor swimming pool as well as direct beach access to the Bay of Chateaubriand.

IHG said that the three hotels are part of a long-term management agreement with owner Société de développement et d’investissement des Îles Loyauté (SODIL).

SODIL general manager William Ihage said: “The Travel and Tourism sector is growing twice as fast as the world economy and supports one in ten jobs , making it a true growth engine.

“New Caledonia is an aspirational destination for travellers from around the world, and visitor arrivals are on an upwards trajectory.

“In fact, in 2017, more than 120,000 tourists and 493,000 cruise ship passengers visited New Caledonia, and we’ve seen a large increase in the number of Australian, New Zealand and Japanese tourists, as well as continued visitors from France.”
