Hoffman Construction Company has won a $159.8M contract from Sound Transit to build the U District Station for the Northgate Link Extension project in Washington, US.
Hoffman will carry out civil, structural and architectural finishes for the underground station that will have entrances along Brooklyn Avenue Northeast between Northeast 45th and 43rd streets.
The contract will also include the provision of elevators and escalators, mechanical and electrical equipment, fire protection and emergency ventilation systems, surface restoration, landscaping and 100 spaces for bike parking.
Construction at the site will commence in June 2017. The U District Station, which has been designed to accommodate future development, is expected to open in 2021.
Upon completion, the project will reduce travel time on journeys between the U District Station and downtown Seattle to eight minutes, while Northgate Mall will be just five minutes away from the new station.
The station is part of the $1.9bn Northgate Link project, which extends light rail 6.9km and will connect Northgate, Roosevelt and U District neighborhoods to downtown Seattle and the airport.
