Dutch Construction company Heijmans has signed a letter of intent with the Municipality of Vlaardingen for the development of the former Vijfsluizen sports park, where the company intends to construct around 400 homes under a project valued at €80m to €100m.
The development is expected to become a new district within the Municipality of Vlaardingen.
The company intends to transform the former sports park into a sustainable and future-proof district with primarily ground-floor homes and apartments.
Heijmans will also transform the old Shell sports building at the site. Room will be created for public green space and water in the new district.
The company had previously acquired the lands of the former sports park.
Over the coming months, Heijmans and the municipality will work out the urban development plan, including the research needed to change the zoning plan.
Sale of the energy-efficient homes is expected to commence in 2020.
In January 2019, Heijmans has entered into a partnership with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to maintain, construct and renovate the infrastructure for the runway sites and the Terminal 1 and 2 parcels for nine years.
Earlier, Heijmans had been designated as the preferred candidate for these parcels and contract will begin in April 2019.
Heijmans Infra signed the contract for the runway sites parcel, which includes infrastructure and provisions on and surrounding the runways, including taxiways, service roads, signage and lighting.
The annual turnover associated with this parcel is expected to be €47m.
Heijmans Utiliteit signed the contract for the Terminal 1 & 2 parcel, which includes the preventive, corrective and replacement maintenance, as well as renovations relating to structural components, technical systems and transport-related facilities.
The annual turnover associated with this parcel will be around €37m.
In January 2019, Heijmans also secured provisional contract for the renovation of the towers housing the hospital beds of the Amsterdam Academic Medical Centre (AMC).
The nursing departments and workstations will be renovated to make them future-oriented.
The engineering and construction contract is valued at €68.5m and the final contract is expected in the second quarter of 2019.
