Construction has started on the new Guangzhou Infinitus Plaza in Baiyun New Town, Guangzhou, China.

The RMB4.5bn ($659M) project has been designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, and will be the new headquarters of Infinitus China — a member of LKK Health Products Group.

The 167,000sq m building will include a new global centre for R&D, a Chinese herbal medicine research and safety assessment centre, and an exhibition centre and gallery.

The plaza will be designed over eight floors and will incorporate a unitised insulated glazing system to maximise natural light penetration and lower energy consumption. It will also be fitted with aluminium perforated screens to offer protection from direct solar heat gain and facilitate rainwater collection.

The screens will be equipped with sensors to monitor the consumption of energy and lighting. The development will also feature connected internal and external walkways, walking and jogging paths, and Chinese herbal plants gardens.

Construction work is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2020.
