The City of Mesa in Arizona, US has celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of a $300m Grande Vita project, a 20 acre, multi-use, campus-style community at Crismon Road and Hampton Avenue in Mesa.

The project by Khangura Development is expected to allow seniors to ‘age in place’. It has been designed where clinical healthcare delivery and research and development could co-exist on the same campus.

Grande Vita, A BioCity Campus, is located in Mesa, bordered by US 60 Superstition Highway, will create nearly 476 jobs and $38.6m in wages.

Upon completion, the campus will house nearly 700,000ft² of independent and assisted living, hotel rooms, multiple dining options, medical offices, a luxury tower and luxury condos, nursing school and rehab clinic sprawling more than 20 acres.

Construction of the project is scheduled to begin this August, with the digging of three, three-story underground parking structures for the campus. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.

BioCity Enterprises chief operating officer Kelly Copeland said: “All eyes will be on the city of Mesa for the ground breaking of Grande Vita. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this project.

“Khangura Development, BioCity Enterprises, Brycon and all the other players involved are excited to build something that will revolutionize the current model of this kind of facility. It will be unrivaled when it’s completed.”

BioCity also plans to include a high-end resort-style design into the place, outfitted with reflecting pools, pergolas, fountains, and green roofs. For increased pedestrian mobility, the development will include winding pedestrian walkways and bridges.

The integrated independent living facility will offer senior Mesa residents, unique housing opportunities, skilled services and recreational activities.

Mesa Mayor John Giles said: “Grande Vita is the future of senior living. The concept of having residential, entertainment, medical and other quality of life amenities in a single campus along with medical research and hundreds of jobs is how my generation will comfortably age in place.”
