Canadian construction firm Graham has secured a C$187m ($138.6m) contract for the construction of an office tower downtown Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada.

The 1090 West Pender Street project will include a 574,000ft² office development with over 32 floors, offering 533,000ft² of leasable office space plus lobby, retail, several large patios, green roof, amenity areas and a six-level below grade parkade.

Under the contract, Graham will be responsible for core and shell construction. And, the interior finishing and fit-out of the leasable spaces will be completed by tenant improvement contractors, contracted directly to each respective tenant.

The building has been designed to achieve an overall LEED Gold standard.

An existing 12-storey office and adjacent seven-level parkade at the site is now being demolished under a separate agreement and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Construction on the site will begin with the excavation and shoring early next year. The overall construction time will be nearly 37 months and substantial completion of the work is expected to take place in February 2023.

Earlier this month, Graham has been selected as the general contractor for the new Waterton Lakes National Park Visitor Centre in Canada.

Designed to be the park’s key visitor facility, the project will feature environmental and cultural importance of the park and its significance to the local indigenous communities.

The visitor centre was designed with input from local Blackfoot communities, which were actively involved in the project.

The interpretive exhibits will include indigenous stories, songs, exhibits interactive displays and 3D topographic maps. The centre will also be home to a new interpretive theatre.

The theme will highlight the uniqueness of Waterton and encourage visitors to experience the local culture, history and their connection to the place.

Work at the project had already begun and it is scheduled to be open to public in the spring of 2021.
