GMI Construction Group and Muse Developments have broken ground on a new 60,000ft² Grade A office building as part of the latest phase at Stockport Exchange in the new business district in the town of Stockport, UK.

The new six-storey office building is being constructed beside the 1 Stockport Exchange. GMI Construction Group has been appointed as the main contractor for the project.

The next stage of work on the £145m flagship office scheme, 2 Stockport Exchange is being delivered in partnership between Stockport Council and urban regeneration and development company, Muse Developments.

Stockport Exchange is part of a regeneration programme to transform Stockport town centre.

Located adjacent to Stockport’s mainline rail station, Stockport Exchange offers easy access to several locations across the UK.

Stockport Exchange has a range of high-profile tenants in 1 Stockport Exchange, including the new Holiday Inn Express Hotel.

Muse Developments development surveyor Greg Ball said: “This is yet another significant milestone in the evolution of Stockport Exchange and it’s exciting to be celebrating the start of construction on this latest scheme, which will complement the successful previous phases.

“This development will further reinforce Stockport Exchange as South Manchester’s new preeminent business location and we’re looking forward to seeing construction progress over the coming months.”

Construction on 2 Stockport Exchange is expected to be completed in February 2020.

Once complete, the Stockport Exchange development will deliver up to 375,000ft² of office space and 28,000ft² of commercial floor space.

GMI Construction Group commercial director Marc Banks said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our strong relationship with Muse and Stockport Council, and starting work on this major development.

“This scheme will further enhance Stockport’s new central business district and we’re pleased to be part of the team creating a new gateway to Stockport town centre.”

Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE have been appointed as joint agents for the scheme.
