Auto supplier Flex-N-Gate has broken ground on its new $95M manufacturing facility at the I-94 Industrial Park in Detroit, Michigan.

The facility will cover an area of 32,516 sq m and will supply parts to Ford Motor Company.

The project is anticipated to result in the creation of at least 400 and up to 700 new jobs in Detroit over the next three years — up to 750 total jobs could be added at a full capacity.

The company has committed to hire 51% of its construction staff from Detroit and award at least 30% of the construction work to local firms.

Shad Khan, Flex-N-Gate owner, said: “Detroit is the birthplace of U.S. automakers, and today Detroit is experiencing a manufacturing rebirth not only throughout the region, but specifically within the city limits. Our new facility at the I-94 Industrial Park will enable Flex-N-Gate to serve our customers better than ever, but the headline for me is one word – jobs.”

Detroit-based Tooles Contracting Group has been picked to carry out the majority of the project’s civil work, and a general contractor is expected to be appointed in the coming months.

The facility is expected to be complete in mid-2018.
