First zone of Al Wakrah Beach development project to be opened to public

Qatar public works authority Ashghal has announced the completion of main works of the first zone of Al Wakrah beach development project, which consists of three zones.

The completed section of the project will be opened to public on 15 May 2018.

The opening of the zone is part of Ashghal’s integrated plan for the development of the Corniche areas in Doha City, Al Wakrah City, Al Khor and Al Shamal.

Ashghal is developing the beach of Al Wakrah, which is composed of three zones covering an area of 335,000m², and is designed to become a leisure destination for families.

During a visit to the completed section of the project, Al Wakrah Municipality technical affairs manager Abdul Aziz Al Mansoori underscored the importance of the Al Wakrah Beach Development Project to serve Al Wakrah area residents.

Buildings Project Management Department project engineer Khalid Abdulla Al Najjar said that 2,100m of the interlock for the pedestrian walkways has been completed and 120 pergola will be implemented to provide shaded areas for families.

So far, all the pergolas for zone 1 have been installed. The project also includes three green areas covering 25,000m².

In addition to the development of 98 solar lighting poles to preserve the environment and reduce electricity consumption, lighting poles will also be established along the beach for the convenience of beach users at night.

Also, a 2,500m metal fence with three entrances will be built along the beach.

The remaining works in the project will be completed by July 2018, which will include 12 buildings for public toilets in the three beach areas, three buildings to be used as cafeteria in the future, as well as three guard rooms.

The project also includes 600 parking spaces on an area of 20,000m², where all parking lots for zone 1 have been completed.

The project was launched in October 2017 and Ashghal is planning to open this part of the project to the public ahead of schedule.
