Taylor Wimpey has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the £1bn redevelopment of two housing estates in Battersea, London.

The house-building company will team up with Wandsworth Council to redevelop the Winstanley and York Road estates into a mixed-use project.

The project will regenerate a 32-acre site, leading to the creation of more than 2,000 residential units. Plans include the re-provision of 530 council homes, and the construction of 100 new homes for affordable rent and 300 at market rents, 100 new homes for shared ownership, as well as homes for sale.

The revamped property will also feature a new leisure centre, a community centre, a library, new shops and business space.

“The Winstanley and York Road regeneration will open up the area to the wider neighbourhood with a street-based design involving street doors, similar to the neighbouring Kambala Estate, and with no distinction between social and private housing,” said Wandsworth Council in a statement.
