Webber, a subsidiary of Ferrovial Agroman, has been awarded a contract by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to expand a section of the US 281 highway in Texas.

The $192M contract will include the extension of a 13km segment of the US 281 between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive in Bexar County, San Antonio.

The scope of the work will include the construction of three new lanes (two for general use and one for high occupancy vehicles) in each direction, along with four interchanges with Loop 1604 and a direct connection to a park-and-ride facility with access to VIA Metropolitan Transit, the public transit system in San Antonio.

It will also include the construction of the necessary frontage roads along with bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Work on the project will take three years to be completed.

Webber has also won a contract to expand the I-45 in Walker County, north of Houston.
