Essential Living has received the go-ahead from the Secretary of State to build its Theatre Square development at Swiss Cottage in west London.

The latest move overrules a previous decision by Camden Council’s to cancel the project.

Designed by Drid Architects, the £100m project will involve construction of a 24-storey tower with 184 flats.

The project will also include construction of a low-rise building above Swiss Cottage tube, ground-level floor retail as well as leisure space.

Essential Living managing director Scott Hammond said: “As we always believed it would, the extensive scrutiny of the scheme during the public inquiry has revealed the significant social benefits of the scheme in terms of new homes for rent and community space, enhancements to the street level frontages and the recognised attractive quality of the design.

“This is the right decision for the revitalisation of Swiss Cottage and we will now commence the work to deliver our proposals which we will be calling Theatre Square.”
