Data centre company Equinix has unveiled plans to expand Platform Equinix with the construction of SG4, the company’s fourth, $85m International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Singapore.
The new facility will support IT transformation and cloud adoption initiatives of businesses by providing interconnection and data centre services and also support the digital infrastructure of Singapore.
The seven-storey data centre is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The first phase of SG4 will provide more than 45,400ft² of co-location space, offering an initial capacity of 1,400 cabinets.
At full build out, the facility is planned to accommodate more than 4,000 cabinets, with a total co-location space of over 132,180ft².
The three Equinix IBX data centres in Singapore comprise more than 445,000ft² of co-location space.
SG4 will be situated at Tai Seng Industrial Estate, a data centre cluster in the east of Singapore.
The new SG4 IBX will be connected to the three existing Equinix IBX data centres in Singapore via low-latency dark fibre links, enabling customers to securely interconnect with approximately 600 companies from different industries.
This includes a range of network services from more than 200 global networks and over 150 cloud and IT service providers.
SG4 will also provide software-defined interconnection through Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric) to over 1,300 businesses, including cloud service providers (CSPs) Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud and Tencent Cloud.
Equinix Asia-Pacific president Samuel Lee said: “At the heart of digital business in Asia-Pacific, Singapore is a crucial hub for many organizations in the region, generating skyrocketing demand for cloud and interconnection services.
“With interconnection accelerating across the Asia-Pacific region, the new SG4 IBX data center will create more opportunities for businesses, both locally and regionally, to interconnect with their customers, partners and stakeholders to achieve digital success, further enhancing the digital economies across Singapore and the region.”
