E.ON begins construction on 151MW wind farm in South Texas

German energy company E.ON has announced that construction on the 151MW Peyton Creek Windfarm project, located in Matagorda County, Texas, has commenced and the facility is expected to be commissioned before the end of 2019.

The addition of Peyton Creek will take E.ON’s total capacity to more than 4,000MW online in the US.

E.ON COO for North America Silvia Ortin said: “Peyton Creek will be our 24th wind project in North America and construction, along with our long-term operation of this project, will deliver clean, low-cost energy to South Texas and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue and land lease payments.

“We appreciate the support of the local community and are excited to significantly diversify the tax base and employment opportunities in the area.”

Located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) south market, the project is powered by 48 3.15MW turbines from the Nordex Group and will generate enough electricity to power more than 45,000 homes.

Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation executive director Mike Ferdinand said: “We welcome Peyton Creek Windfarm to the community. This project brings diversification to our local energy sector and creates new investment that will enhance our tax base.

“We wish them well as they begin construction and operation in our great county.”

Recently, E.ON completed another South Texas onshore wind farm, Stella, a 201MW project in Kenedy County, Texas, at the end of 2018.

The company has developed, built and operates more than 3,873MW of solar, wind and energy storage projects across the US, and more projects are on the way.

E.ON, an international investor-owned energy company, focuses on energy networks, customer solutions and renewables.

In the 2017 financial year, the company generated sales of around $42bn in 90 nations. Around 32 million customers purchase gas and electricity from E.ON.

One of the major companies in the global renewables segment, E.ON has so far invested more than $12bn and operates nearly 5.4GW of renewable capacity.
