Enel begins work on 300MW Diamond Vista wind farm in Kansas, US

Enel Green Power North America (EGPNA), a subsidiary of Enel, has begun construction on its Diamond Vista wind farm in Kansas, US.

Located in Marion and Dickinson counties in Kansas, the wind farm will have an installed capacity of around 300MW.

The project, which entail an investment of about $400m, form parts of the investment outlined in the Enel Group’s current strategic plan. It is funded through the own resources of Enel Group.

The wind farm is owned by Enel Green Power Diamond Vista Wind Project, a subsidiary of EGPNA. EGPNA bought the project from Tradewind Energy, their long-term strategic development partner, based in Kansas.

The project is anticipated to commence operations by the end of 2018. Upon fully operational, the wind farm will be able to generate about 1,300GWh per annum.

The power generated from a 100MW portion of the wind farm will be sold to manufacturing company Kohler under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Furthermore, the project is supported by two more long-term PPAs under which the power produced from another 100MW portion will be sold to City Utilities of Springfield and those from the 84MW portion to Tri-County Electric Cooperative of Oklahoma.

Enel said that the Diamond Vista wind farm will further secure its position as the largest wind capacity operator in the state with nearly 1,400MW of wind energy in operation.

Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel’s Global Renewable Energies division, Enel Green Power, said: “The start of construction of Diamond Vista, which follows a record year of growth in 2017 for Enel Green Power in the US, sends a strong message about our ability to deliver on the company’s commitment to further strengthen its renewable leadership.

“Furthermore, this project confirms us as a partner of choice for offtake customers who, like Enel, are committed to advancing a sustainable energy future. We are proud to be able to support their renewable goals through a cost-effective energy supply.”
