Canadian construction services company EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EllisDon) has reached financial close on the CAD1.2bn ($913m) West Park Healthcare Centre.
Earlier in August 2018, West Park Healthcare Centre and Infrastructure Ontario announced that EllisDon has been awarded a fixed-price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the West Park Healthcare Centre Capital Redevelopment Project.
EllisDon has been selected during an open, fair and competitive procurement process overseen by a third-party fairness advisor.
West Park provides specialised rehabilitation; complex continuing care, long-term care and community health services helping individuals manage difficult health challenges such as disease, diabetes, stroke, amputation and musculoskeletal issues as a result of a life-changing event or illness.
EllisDon SVP Capital’s Joey Comeau said: “As the first hospital in Ontario to include community benefits, West Park Healthcare Centre is a very exciting undertaking for EllisDon.
“As builders who are deeply rooted in the communities we build in, EllisDon is proud to be awarded the opportunity to collaborate on a project that will keep social and economic community benefits at the forefront before, during, and after construction.”
The project will include a 730,000ft² hospital building that will provide inpatient, outpatient and outreach services.
Outpatient care space will be increased to accommodate current and new services such as geriatric clinics and day hospital, and satellite hemodialysis, and 80% of the beds will be in single-patient rooms.
The design will also include sustainable features and elements such as expansion of green space and extensive landscaping for outdoor therapy areas and therapeutic gardens.
The project will target Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
The EllisDon team includes EllisDon Capital (applicant lead); CannonDesign and Montgomery Sisam Architects (lead architect); EllisDon Design Build (constructor); EllisDon Facilities Services (facilities management provider); EllisDon Capital (financial advisor); and Modern Niagara Toronto and Ozz Electric (mechanical and electrical subcontractor).
Construction is set to begin immediately and expected to be completed in early 2023.
