UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has inaugurated works on Burj Jumeira, the new tower to be built in the Al Sufouh neighbourhood of Dubai.
Al Maktoum, accompanied by Dubai International Marine Club chairman Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Holding chairman Abdulla Al Habbai, reviewed plans for the tower and surrounding area, which will be known as Downtown Jumeira.
The 550m Burj Jumeira is located opposite Sheikh Zayed Road in Al Sufouh and the tower’s design is inspired by the ripples of the UAE’s desert sand dunes and its flowing oases.
Digital displays will cover the tower’s façade that can be utilised for various occasions and celebrations.
The crown at Burj Jumeira’s summit will have the flexibility to host a variety of events. At 450m high, it is capable of expanding to accommodate varying capacities and uses. The sky-lounge and interconnected sky-restaurant will provide an opportunity to host larger scale events.
Latest technologies inside the crown will enable its inner surfaces to be transformed into fully immersive and interactive displays.
Burj Jumeira will consist of multiple observation decks, giving visitors 360 degree panoramic views of Dubai.
The main viewing platform will be accessible via lifts with modern digital screens and it is expected to become a major destination to witness fireworks and other events throughout the year, and also give visitors an opportunity take participate in extreme sports.
Designed in the outline of Sheikh Mohammed’s fingerprint, the base of the tower is planned to accommodate social, cultural and artistic events and activities and will also be home to numerous entertainment options, including water fountains, a terraced outdoor amphitheatre.
It is also designed to host interactive lighting and fireworks displays. A fully integrated retail component will surround the base of Burj Jumeira.
Downtown Jumeira is a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use urban destination, which will be home to both residential and commercial towers and hotels, as well F&B concepts, and restaurants.
The area will feature a comprehensive infrastructure with sustainability solutions and smart technologies.
Downtown Jumeira will include a covered pathway connecting the nearby Sharaf DG Metro Station to Burj Jumeira, and through the entire development to Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
It will also include neighbourhood parks, large open spaces and shaded streets.
Construction will begin immediately and the first phase of the development will be delivered in 2023.
