Downer York Joint Venture, a joint venture of Downer EDI Works and South Australian company York Civil, has bagged the City Tram Extension Project in Adelaide, Australia.

The 1km East End extension will feature four new stops - one on King William Road servicing the Festival Plaza precinct and three new stops along North Terrace - and will serve the city’s new Riverbank precinct.

The proposed extension will boost Adelaide’s existing tram network along North Terrace to the city’s East End.

After extensive design, planning and engineering advice, the State government will invest an additional AUD10m (7.9m) into the project, bringing the total project cost to AUD80m ($63.5m), including the procurement of new trams, to allow additional infrastructure works to be carried out.

Preparatory works are currently under progress and the main construction phase is likely to be completed by the early part of 2018.
