CPB Contractors selected for Australia’s Northern Road upgrade project

CPB Contractors, a CIMIC Group company, has been selected by the Australian and New South Wales (NSW) governments for the next stage of The Northern Road upgrade project between Luddenham and Glenmore Park in western Sydney.

To be delivered as part of the A$1.6bn ($1.13bn) The Northern Road upgrade project, the construct-only contract with Roads and Maritime Services will generate revenue of approximately A$170m ($121m) for CPB Contractors.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019 and conclude in 2022.

The project will bring CPB Contractors work valued at A$210m ($149m), with the selection of CPB Contractors, with its joint venture partner, for the early earthworks package from Western Sydney Airport.

The construct-only contract will generate revenue of approximately A$40m ($28m) to CPB Contractors.

CIMIC Group CEO Michael Wright said: “CIMIC and CPB Contractors have worked collaboratively with the NSW Government and Roads and Maritime Services to develop a value-for-money construction program that will deliver high-quality roads assets that are resilient to future needs.

“The Northern Road upgrade project will support the development of an upgraded road network and capitalise on the benefits from the new Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek, which CPB Contractors is now proudly laying the foundations for with its JV partner.”

Under The Northern Road upgrade project, road infrastructure will be upgraded between Littlefields Road in Luddenham and Glenmore Parkway in Glenmore Park, including upgrading 6.7km of road from two lanes to a divided four-lane road, with kerbside bus lanes at each intersection.

The Australian and NSW governments are upgrading The Northern Road and Bringelly Road as part of the A$3.6bn ($2.5bn) Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to support integrated transport in the region and capitalise on the economic benefits from developing the Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.

CPB Contractors managing director Juan Santamaria said: “Delivering next-generation infrastructure within operational roads environments is a core capability for CPB Contractors and during the works our absolute priority is the safety of our people and all road network users.

“We have a strong construction presence in NSW and in the Western Sydney area as we deliver the early works for Western Sydney Airport, meaning our agile technical teams will bring local knowledge and industry-leading experience to ensure all client and community expectations are realised.”
