CPB consortium bags £255m contract for Sydney Metro project

A consortium of Oxford Properties, CIMIC subsidiary CPB Contractors and Grocon has been awarded a contract worth about A$463m (£255.5m) by the New South Wales (NSW) Government to build the new Sydney Metro City & Southwest Pitt Street Station.

Under the contract, the consortium will deliver the new station and two new buildings above to form a new commercial and residential hub around Pitt and Bathurst Streets.

The Pitt Street is one of five Sydney Metro stations planned to be integrated with the areas around them. Other planned developments include Crows Nest, Victoria Cross in North Sydney, Martin Place and Waterloo.

CPB Contractors said that the Integrated Station Development will provide underground Pitt Street Station, which will run from Park Street to Bathurst St, between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets, and connect the two station entries with retail and other commercial facilities.

The consortium will be responsible for the construction of the two high-rise buildings above the station including a 39-storey commercial office building and a 39-storey rental residential building.

The commercial office building is planned to be built above the northern entry to Pitt Street Station, on Park Street between Pitt and Castlereagh streets, while the rental residential building will be built above the southern entry to Pitt Street station, near the corner of Bathurst and Pitt streets.

CIMIC Group CEO Michael Wright said: “This project continues CIMIC Group’s strong track record of providing important infrastructure to benefit communities and help to drive continued economic growth.

“Our multi-disciplinary skills will be central to delivering this vibrant and important new public transport and commercial hub in the heart of Sydney’s central business district.”

Work on the station is scheduled to commence in 2020 and is planned for completion in 2023.

By 2024, the Sydney Metro is expected to deliver 31 metro stations and more than 66km of new metro rail.
