UK-based real estate developer Court Collaboration has secured approval from the Birmingham City Council’s planning committee for its One Eastside, a £160m residential project.

The 51-storey skyscraper will be built in the city centre, near the HS2 station on Curzon Street and is considered to be the tallest residential building in Birmingham. The new building is also claimed to be located five minutes from the Bullring & Grand Central Station.

The building will include 667 one- and two-bedroom apartments delivered across the main tower at a height of 525ft and another 15-storey building, with the overall development featuring a range of retail and leisure facilities.

Some of the key features of the new building include a gym, a yoga room and cinema room, as well as a rooftop dining and bar area in the form of a Sky Lounge.

The One Eastside will also be surrounded by universities such as Birmingham City University and is close to the Brindleyplace and the trendy Jewellery Quarter. The development is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Court Collaboration CEO and founder Anthony McCourt said: “We’re delighted with the council’s decision to grant planning permission for One Eastside and we hope to be able to confirm a start on site date in the near future.

“Birmingham is going through some incredibly exciting changes and this ambitious scheme will keep Court Collaboration at the very forefront of modern city living, sustainable design and innovative construction.”

In May this year, when the scheme was first introduced, Court Collaboration stated that it will be funded through financial backing from an array of investors.

In November, the company had submitted a planning application to develop 392 apartments as part of the wider New Garden Square regeneration, off Hagley Road on the Calthorpe Estate, in Edgbaston.

Its proposals include a mix of spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom properties, with private car parking spaces. With a gross development value of £90m, the scheme will be Court Collaboration’s third build-to-rent project in the region.
