UK-based home builder Countryside in collaboration with Notting Hill Housing has established a joint venture (JV) to build 911 homes at Fresh Wharf in Barking Town Centre, London.

The Barking Town Centre regeneration gateway scheme will entail £330m investment and feature complementary space for cafes, restaurants, commercial and community use.

Folio London, a private rent subsidiary of Notting Hill Housing, has signed an agreement to purchase 157 PRS homes from the JV.

The scheme will provide a mix of three-bedroom townhouses and apartment buildings ranging from six to 15 floors to the north of the site.

A large new open park will be main attraction of the development and 44% of the properties will feature an allocated parking space.

Work on the project is expected to start in 2018 and is slated to be completed in 2026.

Countryside Partnerships South CEO Graham Cherry said: “This is an exciting new development in an increasingly popular London location.

“The site is identified as one of the largest residential sites within the Barking Town Centre Area Action Plan (AAP), which makes a significant contribution towards the council’s target of some 6,000 new homes. We are looking forward to revitalising this area with our partner, Notting Hill Housing, and building much-needed new homes for London.”

Notting Hill Housing group development director John Hughes said: “Our joint venture with Countryside brings this significant new development a step closer.

“We are pleased to be working again with Countryside to provide new homes for this vibrant area and to continue the significant improvement and regeneration that Barking has seen in recent years.”
