Engineering solutions provider Costain has secured an early contractor involvement (ECI) contract from Lancashire County Council for the Preston Western Distributor and associated link roads, in the UK.

The contract, valued at £110m, has been awarded through the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal. The project forms a key part of the City Deal Partnership’s plans to facilitate new development and economic growth in the region.

Costain will be responsible for supporting the council in carrying out the project through the statutory process, including planning and design development before project delivery.

The Preston Western Distributor will connect the A583/A584 to a new junction on the M55 via a dual carriageway spanning 4km. The project will also include link roads to new housing areas at Cottam as well as North West Preston.

Early contractor work will commence immediately, with main project delivery to be done between 2017 and 2019.

Costain CEO Andrew Wyllie said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this ECI contract which further underlines our position as a market leader in the delivery of critical highways schemes which support regional economic growth.”
