Contractor chosen for US light rail station

Hoffman Construction Company has won a $152M contract from Sound Transit to build the Roosevelt station in Washington, US.

The scope of the contract will include constructing civil, structural and architectural finishes for the underground station in the Roosevelt neighbourhood.

The work also includes the installation of elevators and escalators, mechanical and electrical equipment, fire protection and emergency ventilation systems, and surface features and landscaping.

The station will include a plaza with seating, public art and bike parking, and will have entrances along the 12th Avenue NE at NE 65th Street and at NE 67th Street.

Construction work is set to commence in early 2017. The station will serve Northgate Link Extension trains when light rail service begins in 2021.

The $1.9bn Northgate Link project will connect Northgate, Roosevelt and U District neighbourhoods to downtown Seattle and the airport.
